Las Vegas NM Councilor Casey to run for mayor

SANTA FE – Las Vegas, New Mexico, City Council Barbara Casey says she will be a candidate in the March election for Las Vegas mayor.

Casey has been a frequent critic of current Mayor Tonita Gurule-Giron, who was recently indicted on six felony bribery and abuse of power counts. The state Attorney General’s Office alleges she steered contracts to a construction firm owned by a man they allege she was romantically involved with.

“I think I know what we’ve being doing right and I know what we’ve been doing wrong,” said Casey. “I want to stop what we’ve been doing wrong and continue what we’ve been doing right.”

She said there are nearly 100 job vacancies in city government and city employees are overworked.
