New Mexico United’s 2020 season begins March 7 at Austin Bold FC, and the home opener at Isotopes Park vs. neighboring El Paso Locomotive FC on March 21.
The second-year United Soccer League Championship division team announced its schedule Thursday during a press conference at Sandia Resort & Casino, a business partner of United in 2020.
The schedule announcement came in conjunction with the 35-team USLC announcing the entire league schedule.
United’s 17-game home schedule, as it was in 2019, will be back-loaded. Five of the last six games of the regular season, including the final four, are at Isotopes Park. The last one is Oct. 17 vs. Reno. Playoffs will be in November.
ESPN has announced it will air 20 league games on either ESPN2, ESPN Deportes or ESPNews. New Mexico’s home dates vs. Austin (July 17) and San Antonio (Aug. 6) have been selected.
New Mexico United, in its inaugural season, announced an average attendance of 12,693 per contest, best among USLC franchises.
United said some preseason exhibition (friendlies) matches are planned and will be announced soon.
Last year, United finished 11-10-13 and advanced to the 10-team Western Conference playoffs, losing in the first round to Sacramento.
United also advanced to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open Cup, defeating two Major League Soccer (Colorado and FC Dallas) sides along the way.
The team is returning 15 players from 2019 and has announced the addition of three newcomers.
