Couple carjacked outside Santa Fe burrito restaurant

SANTA FE — A couple visiting Santa Fe were carjacked outside a popular burrito restaurant in broad daylight Monday right after the suspect robbed a nearby ice cream shop.

According to a Santa Fe Police Department report, the couple, from Nevada, was sitting in their rental car outside El Parasol on Cerrillos Road just before 4 p.m. Monday when a man with a bandanna covering his face pointed a gun at the male in the driver’s seat and demanded he and his wife get out of the car.

The man said they got out of the silver Mustang rental and the suspect got in the driver’s seat. The man said the suspect yelled, “How do you start the car give me the keys,” the report says. The man threw the key at the suspect before he and his wife ran to a nearby Baskin-Robbins.

The suspect robbed the Baskin-Robbins at gunpoint before carjacking the couple, the report says. Police could not immediately find the suspect, who was described as a man of average weight and height in his mid 20s.
