Emilee Kupper, of Rio Rancho, with her eight-week-old son Ellis Kupper, caught an 18-inch brown trout on the Chama River below El Vado Lake using a Joe’s Flies pink shrimp lure on Jan. 18. … Glenn May, of Dolores, Colorado, caught and released a 20-inch brown trout below El Vado Lake in the “quality section” of the Chama using a midge fly on Jan. 19.

Susan and Randy Koonce, of New Waverly, Texas, caught their limits of trout, including a 22-inch rainbow using PowerBait at Eagle Nest Lake on Jan. 15.

At Fenton Lake, the father/son team of Greg and Prescott Scargall, of Santa Fe, got their New Mexico Trout Challenge off to a great start by catching 17-inch and 16½-inch Rio Grande cutthroat trout ice fishing using a pink ice fishing jig on Jan. 19. … Matthew Medina and Shaun Jaramillo, of Albuquerque, caught a 20½-inch rainbow trout and a 15-inch cutthroat trout using glow ice jigs tipped with wax worms at the bottom in 8 feet of water on Jan. 20. … Riyan Schmaltz, 11, caught his first cutthroat trout using a gold Thomas Colorado spoon on Jan. 20.

Tristan Kim, 12, of Ruidoso caught his first brook trout measuring 10 inches out of a spring-fed creek in Ruidoso using his fly rod and a #20 red and black zebra midge on Jan. 19.

NOTES from GAME & FISH: Fishing for trout at TINGLEY BEACH was fair using garlic scented PowerBait.

Monday morning flows on the CHAMA RIVER below El Vado and Abiquiu were 102 cfs and 74.4 cfs, respectively. Fishing for brown trout below El Vado Lake was good using Joe’s Flies spinners and midge flies. Fishing for trout below Abiquiu Lake was good using PowerBait.

FENTON LAKE is open for ice fishing with the ice reported at 13 inches thick. Fishing for trout was good using pink jigs, glow ice jigs tipped with wax worms and gold spoons. Only two cutthroat trout are allowed to be harvested per day within the regular five fish limit.

EAGLE NEST LAKE is open for ice fishing. Fishing for trout and perch was good using bright-colored PowerBait.

Streamflow on the RED RIVER below the hatchery Monday morning was 51.6 cfs. Fishing for trout was good using salmon eggs and bead head nymph flies.

LAKE MALOYA is open to ice fishing with ice reported at 13 inches thick. Fishing for trout was good using PowerBait, glow ice jigs tipped with salmon eggs and dough bait.

Fishing at STORRIE LAKE for trout was fair to good using worms.

Streamflow on the SAN JUAN RIVER Monday morning was 491 cfs. Dry fly fishing for trout in the “quality waters” section was fair to good using small midge and midge cluster patterns. Fishing for trout in the “quality waters” was good using red midge larva patterns, pupa patterns and egg patterns. Fishing for trout in the “bait waters” was fair to good using flies and salmon eggs. Water clarity was about 1-foot visibility.

Fishing for trout was fair at BLUEWATER LAKE.

At ALUMNI POND, fishing for trout was good using salmon peach PowerBait and corn.

Fishing for trout at BEAR CANYON LAKE was slow.

At LAKE ROBERTS, fishing for trout was fair to good using nightcrawlers.

Fishing for trout at TREES LAKE was good using garlic green PowerBait, live worms and corn.

At YOUNG POND, fishing for trout was fair to good using salmon peach PowerBait, corn and marshmallow balls.

At ALTO LAKE, fishing for trout was good using corn and salmon eggs.

Streamflow on the RUIDOSO RIVER Monday morning at Hollywood was 7.63 cfs. Fishing for trout was fair to good using red and black zebra midge flies.
