SANTA FE — It helps to have a doctor in the Roundhouse.

David Scrase, a medical doctor and Cabinet secretary for human services, rushed to help a woman who collapsed Tuesday at the Capitol.

The incident happened as seniors packed into the lobby of the Governor’s Office for a news conference.

It was crowded, and the woman appeared to fall down near the back wall of the waiting area.

As people shouted for someone to call 911, Scrase quickly made his way through the crowd and attended to the woman.

She was later helped into a chair and visited briefly with Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham before other medical personnel arrived.

“Fortunately, we have a doctor in the Cabinet,” said Katrina Hotrum-Lopez, who leads the Aging and Long-Term Services Department.
