Meet the brewers behind the beer at Flix Brewhouse during “Beer With the Brewer.”

The public is welcome to come into the movie theater brewhouse from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4. They will have the opportunity to meet with lead brewer Will Moorman and assistant brewer Chance Carolus and view the brewing area.

“Usually, I am a Monday-through-Friday kind of guy, so because of that (we miss) a majority of the people on the weekends,” Moorman said. “I don’t get to see as many of our guests as I would like, so this is an opportunity for both of us. I really like to hear what people are into, what people like, dislike, and just hang out with different people.”

As part of the event, Flix will be releasing Franchise #2 West Coast IPA, which guests can sample and purchase. Patrons will receive a commemorative glass specific to the event when they purchase a pint of Franchise #2.

“It is a double dry-hopped West Coast IPA done with Columbus hops, which are classic American hops with notes of pine resin with a skunky character, along with some big, bold tropical notes,” Moorman said.

Attendees also will be able to chat with Moorman and Carolus about the other beers they brew and sample those as well.

“Usually, we have about 11 beers on tap,” Moorman said. “What we do is we have six beers that stay on tap year-round – our core six. Those beers are always going to be the ones we serve. On top of that, we’ll do national seasonals that’s a franchise series which will be available for a limited run at everyone’s location, and on top of that we do local specials, which is my recipe specific to Albuquerque. We usually rotate. Last count, we did about 30 different recipes last year. We like to mix it up.”

Moorman and Carolus rotate beers they specifically create for the Albuquerque location.

“I think we did 18 of our own recipes last year, or something like that,” Moorman said. “Everything will be on tap, and everyone is welcome to sample those as they’d like. I love talking beer. I love talking recipes. It’s something we take a lot of pride in at Flix.”

The recipe specific beers offered at the Albuquerque location include Dr. Brownstone brown ale, Darth Malt, which is a Baltic porter created for the release of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,” and LA’s Finest pale ale.

“LA’s Finest, which is a pale ale, there’s really great citrusy tones with that one,” Moorman said. It was made by our assistant brewer, Chance Carolus. It’s an American pale ale with Cascade and Chinook hops. It has lots an lots of citrusy tones to it. Darth Malt is a play off of several of the characters in Star Wars. That’s a Baltic porter. Dr. Brownstone, it’s an English brown ale. Lots of biscuity, bready, toasty tones with hints of coffee.”

Eventgoers can pair their beer with a housemade baked spinach dip with fresh spinach, tender artichoke hearts, four-cheese blend, cream, garlic, shallots and butter served with fried Italian-seasoned pita.

“One of directors came up with the recipe,” Moorman said of the spinach dip. “I actually tasted it a couple weeks ago. It’s absolutely fantastic.”
