AROUND THE STATE

BILL EVANS LAKE: The Game & Fish Department will be conducting a habitat improvement project Feb. 11 through Feb. 14. The road to the north side of the lake will be closed to the public during this time. The south side of the lake including the boat ramp will remain open.

NOTES from GAME & FISH: Fishing for trout at TINGLEY BEACH was fair to good using wax worms, garlic PowerBait and homemade dough bait.

At the ALBUQUERQUE AREA DRAINS, fishing for trout was fair to good using worms and salmon eggs.

Last Saturday the boat ramps at COCHITI LAKE were icy and boats couldn’t launch. Ice extending from the shoreline prevented bank fishing.

Monday morning flows on the CHAMA RIVER below El Vado and Abiquiu were 102 cfs and 76.7 cfs, respectively. Fishing for trout below El Vado Lake was fair to good using nightcrawlers.

FENTON LAKE is open for ice fishing with the ice reported at 13-inches thick. Fishing for trout was good using Kastmaster lures, yellow jigs, pink jigs and glow ice jigs tipped with wax worms.

Fishing for trout on the JEMEZ RIVER was good below Battleship Rock using worms, salmon eggs and green mop flies. The water temperature was 44 degrees.

Streamflow on the SAN JUAN RIVER Monday morning was 485 cfs. Fishing for trout in the “quality waters” section was fair to good using size 24 and 26 midge nymph patterns, size 22 red larva, chocolate emergers and size 24 grey adult midge dry fly patterns. Fishing for trout in the “bait waters,” downstream from the Red Chile Special Trout Waters, was fair to good using flies, PowerBait and salmon eggs. Water clarity was about 18 inches.

EAGLE NEST LAKE is open for ice fishing. Fishing for trout was good using small ice fishing jigs, spoons and PowerBait. Fishing for perch was good using Swedish Pimple jigs tipped with meal worms.

LAKE MALOYA is open to ice fishing with ice reported at 15 inches thick. Fishing for trout was good using PowerBait and dough bait.

At CONCHAS LAKE, fishing for walleye was fair using green grubs.

At QUEMADO LAKE, fishing for trout was fair to good using purple PowerBait. Open water was limited with the majority of the lake covered in a thin sheet of ice.

Fishing at BATAAN LAKE for trout was good using garlic PowerBait.

Fishing for trout at BOTTOMLESS LAKES was good using salmon eggs and PowerBait.
