Mile record-setter to run in Albuquerque this weekend at U.S. meet

Elle Purrier, who on Saturday set the American record in the women’s indoor mile at the Millrose Games in New York, is one of the headlining athletes for the U.S. Indoor Track and Field Championships, to be held Friday and Saturday at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

Purrier set the mark in 4 minutes, 16.85 seconds, eclipsing Mary Tabb’s record of 4:20:50 set in 1982. And it was the second-fastest indoor mile ever, behind Ethiopia’s Genzebe Dibaba world record of 4:13:31, set in 2016.

The meet begins at 5:10 p.m. Friday with events continuing through 9 p.m., then resumes at 11 a.m. Saturday with events scheduled through 3:55 p.m. Tickets are available on the U.S. track and field ( and University of New Mexico athletics ( websites.
