KANW is rebroadcasting a panel discussion on the lessons learned from the bloody Santa Fe prison riot, which occurred 40 years ago this month. The program will be aired on Thursday at 6 p.m. on KANW, 89.1 FM.
The Albuquerque Journal and KANW recently teamed up to produce the two-hour forum, which featured Corrections officials and experts.
“It was a really important program on an important topic,” KANW General Manager Michael Brasher said. “By looking at the past problems and what has been done, we realize how much work remains to be done.”
The panel members included state Corrections Secretary Alisha Tafoya Lucero, former Corrections Secretary Gregg Marcantel, longtime inmate attorney Peter Cubra, Corrections Officers Union President Dirk Lee, pollster and political analysis Brian Sanderoff and Journal investigative reporter Mike Gallagher. The discussion was moderated by Journal Senior Editor Kent Walz.
The forum was held after the publication of a three-part series, “Revisiting the Nightmare,” by Gallagher. The series can be found on the Journal’s website, ABQjournal.com.
KANW also will offer a podcast of the panel’s discussion on the KANW website, kanw.com, beginning Friday.
