Sports Speak Up! Decrying the cheating, lamenting the crumbling Lobo women’s team

ATTENTION ROB MANFRED: When the legitimate home run king speaks, you should listen. A suspension here, a firing there is not nearly enough punishment. Just as in the Black Sox scandal many years ago, you have to send a message that this can never happen again. Apparently your office had “deaf ears” to complaints and suspicions for several years. Now you have Pete Rose saying “what about me”, what I did wasn’t so bad. Are you really going to stand by and watch a group of players go unpunished ? … Take the cheaters out.

— Mark in Los Lunas

IT’S OBVIOUS AT (Wednesday’s) Lady Lobo game that there is no discipline. A starting player has a difference of opinion after being taken out at the end of the game. I thought the coach was hired to make that choice. Same player unstraps her brace and goes halfway up the ramp. Two coaches and a trainer talk her into coming back. And “Coach Mike” puts her back in the game. Really? She should have been gone! Who is in charge? Disappointed.

WHAT BECOMES of the Broken-hearted? Cal women’s basketball teams feasted on UNM this season, winning 7-of-8, 6-0 MWC, 4-1 at The Pit after the SDSU fiasco. … For their loyalty, Lobos fans deserve a fighting finish from their team, not just a ribbon for participating.

PAUL WEIR recently stated that everything happens for a reason. Maybe so but I don’t know if the good Lord really wanted UNM’s fans to endure a sweep by San Diego State with an average differential of 25.5 points. Some divine intervention is certainly needed for this UNM team as many of us are losing faith in the basketball program.

— Religious Lobo Fan

HAVING WATCHED the UNM men’s basketball team play SDSU the other night. It resembled a playground pick up game in the Bronx. Each Lobo player strutting his own mojo. This team lacks a basic understanding of the fundamentals of basketball. Poor coaching? Indeed!
