Gene Hackman Slaps Homeless Man In Santa Fe

Actor Gene Hackman slapped a homeless man this afternoon in downtown Santa Fe.  Police say Hackman acted in self-defense after the homeless man became aggressive toward the actor and his wife.

Hackman, a longtime Santa Fe resident, and his wife were walking near Lincoln and Marcy about 1:30 p.m. when the encounter with the homeless man took place.

Police Sgt. Andrea Dobyns said the homeless man was aggressive and called Hackman’s wife a dirty name, then began to approach the actor. Hackman slapped the man, who police did not identify. The homeless man was not injured, Dobyns said.

The homeless man reported the slapping to police. No charges will be filed, Dobyns said.
