Haylie Owens, 12, of Rio Rancho caught a 6-pound bass Sunday using homemade bait at Escondida Lake.

Valerie Wyatt of Roswell caught a 17-inch catfish March 7 at Lake Van using chicken liver.

On the San Juan River, Luana Lucero of Bloomfield caught a 20-inch rainbow trout on Sunday using Fireballs. … Nathan Gilbert, 11, of Farmington caught and released a 13-inch Colorado pikeminnow near Farmington on March 7 using chicken liver.

Owen Middagh, 8, of Albuquerque caught a 20-inch, 4-pound rainbow trout at Seven Springs Brood Pond on Sunday using Gulp bait.

Glenn Hinkle of Elephant Butte caught a 5-pound smallmouth bass on Feb. 29 using a spinner bait at Elephant Butte Lake.

Romeo Lopez, 13, of Peñasco caught a 21-inch rainbow trout March 1 trolling a trout jig at the upper section of the lake at Santa Cruz Lake.

NOTES from GAME & FISH: At TINGLEY BEACH, fishing for trout was good using green PowerBait. Fishing for trout in the catch-and-release pond was fair using black and gold bead head zebra midge flies.

Fishing for trout at the ALBUQUERQUE-AREA DRAINS was fair to good using white PowerBait.

Streamflow on the SAN JUAN RIVER on Monday morning was 418 cfs. Fishing for rainbow and brown trout in the “quality waters” section was good using sizes 24 and 26 midge larva flies and sizes 24 and 22 Baetis nymph flies. Water clarity was about 2 feet of visibility. Fishing for trout in the “bait waters” was good using Fireballs, egg pattern flies and spinners.

At BLUEWATER LAKE, fishing for trout was very good using cheese PowerBait, rainbow PowerBait and woolly buggers. Fishing for tiger muskie was fair using swimbaits and spinnerbaits.

Fishing for trout at MONASTERY LAKE was good using yellow PowerBait.

Streamflow on the PECOS RIVER near the town of Pecos was 38.7 cfs on Monday morning. Fishing for trout was good using worms and PowerBait.

Streamflow on the RED RIVER below the hatchery was 45.0 cfs Monday morning. Fishing for trout was fair to good using woolly buggers and salmon eggs.

Streamflow on the RIO GRANDE at the Taos Junction Bridge was 584 cfs Monday morning. Fishing for trout was fair to good using woolly buggers. Fishing for catfish near Albuquerque was good using cut bait.

Fishing for bass at UTE LAKE was fair using spinner baits and vibrating jigs in shallow water during the afternoon. The surface water temperature was in the upper 40s, and the main lake was clear.

Fishing for trout on the JEMEZ RIVER was good below Battleship Rock using PowerBait and nymph flies. Fishing for trout was good in streams above the community of La Cueva using crickets.

FENTON LAKE is closed to ice fishing due to unsafe ice conditions. The lake is open for day use and camping.

LAKE ALICE and LAKE MALOYA are closed to ice fishing due to unsafe ice conditions.

EL VADO LAKE is closed to ice fishing and awaiting open water.

At CLAYTON LAKE, fishing for trout was fair. The boat ramp is closed due to low water level.

Fishing for trout at ALUMNI POND was fair to good using garlic peach PowerBait, corn and marshmallows.

At BILL EVANS LAKE, fishing for trout was good using cheese-flavored PowerBait and pheasant tail nymph flies.

Fishing for walleye at CABALLO LAKE was fair to good using a jig head with a white curly-tail grub.

At ELEPHANT BUTTE LAKE, fishing for white bass was fair to good using white crank baits.

Fishing for bass at ESCONDIDA LAKE was fair.

Trout fishing at LAKE ROBERTS was good using Peacock Lady flies.

At ALTO LAKE, fishing for trout was good using salmon eggs, worms and garlic peach PowerBait.

Trout fishing at GRINDSTONE RESERVOIR was good using flies and Kastmaster lures.

Streamflow on the PECOS RIVER below Sumner Lake was 106 cfs on Monday morning. Fishing for trout was fair using salmon eggs and PowerBait.
