Because of overriding coronavirus concerns, New Mexico United can’t reveal its home kits (uniforms) on the pitch as long as United Soccer League play is suspended.
And the club couldn’t make a party of the reveal, since gatherings of 10 or more people aren’t allowed either.
So the club on Friday went on social media to show its fans a 2-minute-plus video shot partly in Meow Wolf, again a prominent jersey sponsor, and at Isotopes Park, its home field.
The primary changes are that Puma is the athletic apparel provider replacing adidas, and so the Puma logo is on the upper right breast of the jersey.
Yellow trim is now around the shoulders and collar. Both the home and away jerseys feature what the club calls “Zia lines” that are prominent in its shield.
USL Championship Division play has been suspended through at least May 10. United, which lost its season opener 1-0 at Austin, will have missed eight games by then. Whether the league will attempt to make up games or leave them canceled isn’t known.
