Council approves $300K in spending with arts, cultural orgs

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Albuquerque City Council on Monday approved over $300,000 in contract spending intended to bolster arts and cultural organizations during the ongoing economic shutdown.

The council voted 9-0 to adopt the Urban Enhancement Trust Fund Program and to appropriate $310,870 for contracts with 66 different organizations.

Councilor Isaac Benton said he was pleased that the committee reviewing applications and making recommendations to the council developed a plan that spread the money widely.

“It’s really nice to see such a broad spectrum of people who take pride in their work and our community and for us to give them a little bit of help,” he said.

Maximum values for the individual contracts range from $1,000 to $6,900 and Albuquerque Cultural Services Director Shelle Sanchez said the city would begin working on the contracts for service Tuesday. Some should begin invoicing by later this month, she told the council.
