Five people are in the hospital after a shooting Thursday night at an apartment complex in Southeast Albuquerque.
Daren DeAguero, an Albuquerque police spokesman, said in a news release that the conditions of those shot range from stable to critical, but did not elaborate further.
DeAguero said officers responded around 8:15 p.m. to the Aspen Ridge Apartments at 820 Louisiana SE, near Kathryn, after a 911 call came in that someone had been shot.
“Officers arrived and discovered five individuals with gunshot wounds,” he said. “… It appears some type of altercation happened in the parking lot, resulting in the shooting.”
DeAguero did not give any suspect information or any other details.
Police vehicles and crime scene tape blocked off a tight segment of the parking lot near the south side of the complex. Evidence markers littered the ground as officers investigated the scene.
Two hours after the shooting, the apartments surrounding the scene were mostly quiet, but a man watched from a lawn chair on his second-story balcony. He said he had heard several gunshots a few hours beforehand, but didn't know much else.
