Family and friends of bicyclist Javier Garcia gathered Sunday to pay tribute to the 32-year-old bicycling enthusiast who died in early October after riding his bike into a parked car at high speed.

The Duke City Wheelmen Foundation installed a ghost bike memorial in the front yard of a home near Morningside and La Hacienda NE, where Garcia was killed.

Garcia regularly made the 10-mile trek through Morningside to his home in Snow Heights, sometimes bicycling there and back several times a day, a friend told the Journal recently.

Garcia’s parents, Mario and Ramona Garcia, also bicyclists, attended the memorial’s unveiling along with dozens of others who knew him.
