LAS CRUCES — New Mexico State has agreed to play football at Wisconsin on Sept. 17, 2022, NMSU announced Thursday. NMSU says it will receive $1.4 million to play the Big Ten school.
It is the third Power 5 game the Aggies have scheduled for that season, including at Minnesota (Sept. 1) and at Missouri (Nov. 10). NMSU gets $1.6 million to go to Missouri. NMSU gets nothing additional to go to Minnesota as part of a two-for-one deal that included previous Aggies-Gophers games in Minneapolis and Las Cruces.
COMMITMENT: Carlsbad rising senior Shamar Smith has accepted a preferred walk-on offer from New Mexico State, the Current-Argus reported. Smith led Carlsbad in receiving (35 for 532 yards and three touchdowns) last year and is called a “hybrid athlete” by Carlsbad coaches who is projected as a linebacker or receiver in the future.
