The New Mexico Department of Health on Sunday announced nine more deaths related to COVID-19 and 149 new cases.

The total number of deaths in the state related to the disease is now 317.

The latest deaths include six people from McKinley County:

⋄ Three women in their 80s who had underlying health conditions. Two of them were residents of Little Sisters of the Poor, a care facility for the elderly.

⋄ A man in his 90s who had underlying conditions and was also a resident of Little Sisters of the Poor.

⋄ A man in his 60s who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions. He was a resident of the Red Rocks Care Center in Gallup.

⋄ A man in his 70s who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions.

Three men from San Juan County – in their 50s, 60s and 80s – also died. All three had been hospitalized, but only the older two had underlying health conditions, according to the Health Department.

The new cases announced Sunday include 64 in McKinley County, 23 in San Juan County, 12 in Bernalillo County and nine in Sandoval County.

One more state Corrections Department inmate at the Otero County Prison Facility has tested positive, bringing the total number of cases among state inmates there to 41. Fifty more federal inmates being held at the facility have also tested positive, state health officials say.

McKinley County, with 2,192 cases, has nearly one-third of the state’s 6,943 cases. San Juan County has 1,558 cases, while Bernalillo County has 1,337. Sandoval County has 543 cases, and Doña Ana County, in southern New Mexico, has 407.

Several counties in New Mexico are still reporting single-digit cases. Harding, Hidalgo and Sierra counties still have one case each, according to the Department of Health.

There are 213 people hospitalized in New Mexico with COVID-19.

The state says 2,464 people have recovered from the disease.
