J.B. White may become a University of New Mexico student earlier than planned.

White, Santa Fe High’s 6-foot-8 shooting guard who verbally committed to the Lobos last fall, went on Instagram late last week to announce he was going to graduate early, the Santa Fe New Mexican reported.

His plan is to graduate this summer and enroll at UNM for the fall 2020 semester, the Journal confirmed.

White, 18, did not return a text message seeking comment from the Journal on Monday.

Should he bypass his senior season with the Demons and get into UNM by August, there’s no guarantee he’ll have an immediate roster slot.

UNM currently has 13 scholarships already committed for the 2020-21 season, which is the NCAA limit. That includes returning players plus incoming recruits, and that number does not include White. Lobos coach Paul Weir cannot comment on any recruit until the school receives a signed letter of intent.

Santa Fe coach Zack Cole declined to comment on Monday.
