Clean-up ongoing Downtown after late night riots

City employees as well as independent contractors begin the cleanup process after Downtown Albuquerque protests Monday night, June 1. Windows were smashed at local businesses and the KiMo Theatre. (Roberto E. Rosales/Journal)

Early Monday afternoon, city crews were still busy cleaning up graffiti and broken glass along the Central corridor, with police still blocking off the street starting at 1st and heading westward.

On Gold, various businesses, including the New Mexico Bank and Trust building, had windows broken during riots that broke out after Sunday evening’s peaceful protest. During those demonstrations, hundreds marched down Central to protest the death of George Floyd, a black man killed on Memorial Day as police in Minnesota took him into custody.

Protests were held throughout the country Sunday; many of them turned violent.
