State health officials announced 129 new COVID-19 cases and five deaths related to the virus, bringing the total to 8,800 cases and 392 deaths statewide as of Saturday.
Four people from McKinley County and one in San Juan County are the latest to die of the virus, according to the update issued by the state Saturday. All five were hospitalized and had underlying medical conditions. They were:
⋄ Three women in their 60s and a man in his 70s from McKinley County.
⋄ A man in his 50s from San Juan County.
Health officials said the new cases include 40 in McKinley County, 29 in San Juan County, 23 in Doña Ana County, 15 in Bernalillo County, seven in Cibola County, six in Sandoval County and one each in Eddy, Santa Fe, Socorro and Torrance counties.
There were also five new cases reported among federal detainees at the Otero County Prison Facility, which has had hundreds of new cases among state and federal detainees in the past week.
State officials said 176 people are hospitalized with COVID-19 and 3,286 are designated as having recovered by the New Mexico Department of Health.
