ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Baird Fleming, director of the ABQ BioPark, has resigned, Shelle Sanchez, director of the city’s Cultural Services Department confirmed Tuesday.

Fleming’s last day on the job was June 12, she said. His letter of resignation did not offer a reason for his departure, though she indicated Fleming may have been looking at other job opportunities.

Fleming had been director of the BioPark since early 2018 and was deputy director for a couple of years before that, Sanchez said.

The BioPark consists of the zoo, botanic garden, aquarium and Tingley Beach.

BioPark deputy director Stephanie Stowell will serve as interim director while a national search for a new director is conducted, Sanchez said.
