ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — In separate incidents Tuesday night, a woman was struck and killed by a vehicle and a man was injured when he fell off an Albuquerque Rapid Transit platform in Southeast Albuquerque.
Tanner Tixier, an Albuquerque police spokesman, said the driver who struck the woman drove off and the man who was pinned between the ART bus and platform is in the hospital.
He said officers responded to a crash at Central and Dallas SE, near Pennsylvania. They discovered a woman had been fatally hit by a vehicle that fled the scene.
“This investigation is ongoing,” Tixier said.
Then, a few miles down Central, he said police responded to a “serious injury crash” at the ART station near Presbyterian and Interstate 25.
Tixier said a man had attempted to board the bus but “was refused service due to being highly intoxicated.”
“The male held onto the bus for a short period of time and then let go,” he said. “As the bus departed, the male subject fell down and landed along the bus.”
ABQ Ride Spokesman, Rick De Reyes, later said the police narrative is not true.
“At no time did our driver ever refuse this man service,” he said.
De Reyes said a man came out of some bushes near the station and banged on the bus while running alongside it.
“Our driver then stopped, which resulted in the man falling,” he said.
Tixier said the man was pinned between the bus’s wheel and concrete base of the station.
“The male was transported to a local hospital for injuries sustained during this incident,” he said.
