Sports Speak Up! Naming rights deals are hazardous, at least at UNM

THE NAMING rights agreements for University Stadium and the Pit haven’t gone too well.  … (A)pparently only about $3 million has been collected over the years? Contrast that with Colorado State’s 15-year agreement with a credit union for the naming rights to the football stadium (for) $37.7 million. Maybe UNM needs to find someone who will pay the entire amount upfront? In the meantime, rename University Stadium Bill Weeks Stadium for his 3 WAC championships in 1962, ‘63 and ‘64 and across the street bring back only the name “the Pit.”— Lobo Town Resident

GIVEN THE current situation with COVID-19 in this country, the NCAA should cancel all intercollegiate athletics until a vaccine becomes available. This may not sit well with sports fans, but remember the outcome for many who get the virus is a world of hurt and possibly death. Worth the risk? I think not!— North Valley Wally

WHAT ARE naming rights to the Pit really worth? Doesn’t it depend on the number of basketball games played there this season? If I were to pay for naming rights, I would pay after the games are played, not before.
