Judge Maria Dominguez

Dominguez started at Metro Court in 2008 and has been involved in several court projects and specialty court programs over the years, according to a news release. She replaces Sandra Engel, who is stepping down as chief judge on July 31.

Dominguez was born and raised in Chamisal and attended New Mexico Highlands University and the University of New Mexico School of Law. She has worked as a public defender and a hearing officer for the city of Albuquerque and the state Environment Department.

Dominguez has selected Judge Michelle Castillo Dowler to preside over Metro Court’s Criminal Division, while Judge Frank Sedillo will be the Civil Division’s presiding judge.
