Signed: Recent Mora grad Shanay Casados, who pitched and played infield for the Rangerettes, signed to play at Luna Community College in Las Vegas, New Mexico. As a pitcher, Casados recorded eight of the team’s nine wins in the 2019 season and, at the plate, she hit .607 with 18 RBI and 37 runs while stealing 36 bases.

Canceled: COVID-19 has claimed another victim as the venerable Stu Clark Basketball boys basketball tournament, held annually for 66 consecutive years on the New Mexico Highlands University campus, has been cancelled for the season.

Four in a row: Brad Lardon of The Club at Las Campanas won his fourth consecutive Senior Section Championship earlier this month, hitting 12 birdies and an eagle in shooting a 13-under 131 at his home course.

NM wins: KayLinda Crawford of Los Alamos won the New Mexico-West Texas Women’s Amateur at Santa Ana Golf Club in Albuquerque earlier this month. Crawford, 53, shot 1-over 145 (70-75) in a championship flight that had 10 golfers. The tournament is usually three rounds, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, and with the hope of attracting more competitors, the event was 36 holes over two days.

Closed: The Los Alamos County Golf Course will be closed for at least two months to allow for installation of a new irrigation system.
