The Albuquerque Police Department is warning citizens about a scam seeking pledge donations and child identification information – including fingerprints, a hair sample and a current photograph.
“A citizen notified the department of a letter they received in the mail thanking them for a donation,” APD spokeswoman Rebecca Atkins wrote in a news release. “The letter went on to say law enforcement officers across the country have joined forces as the National Police and Troopers Association (N.P.T.A) also known as the International Union of Police Associations, to make communities safer.”
She said the letter also asked for the child identification information to help locate a child if they’re missing.
“Please, do not send any money or personal information to anyone if you receive this letter in the mail, it is a scam,” Atkins wrote.
