Santa Fe County had the most new COVID-19 cases in the state Sunday, which has not been the norm for the county that houses the state capital.
New Mexico reported 98 new cases of coronavirus statewide oSunday, according to an update from the state Department of Health, putting the state back on a downward trend.
Health officials also announced two more deaths attributed to the disease Sunday, bringing the total statewide death count to 745.
Santa Fe County reported 19 new cases, giving the county a total of 777.
Bernalillo County reported 17 new cases Sunday after recording 86 new cases Saturday.
Lea County reported 14 new cases Sunday, for a total of 1,036.
Ten counties, including McKinley, San Juan and Doña Ana, reported single-digit new cases on Sunday.
Those who died include a Bernalillo County man in his 30s who was hospitalized and had underlying health conditions and a woman in her 60s from McKinley County who had underlying conditions.
The state now has a total of 24,396 cases, with 11,539 recoveries. Bernalillo County, with a total of 5,601 cases, accounts for 23% of the state’s total.
There were 64 people hospitalized with the disease in New Mexico as of Sunday, according to the Department of Health.
State officials say there has been at least one COVID-19 case among residents and staff in 50 long-term care facilities across the state in the past 28 days.
