ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The body of a man who went hiking in the Sandia Mountains Sept. 13 was found Saturday, according to a spokesman with the Albuquerque Police Department.

Gibran Hernandez-Avila’s body was found in the Sandia Mountains, Gilbert Gallegos said in an email.

“The death is being ruled accidental at this time,” he said.

A missing person’s alert was issued Sept. 15, two days after 40-year-old Hernandez-Avila went hiking and sent his last known communication to his family.

Gallegos did not specify where Hernandez-Avila’s body was found in the Sandia Mountains.
