The UNM men’s basketball team on Wednesday promoted Ralph Davis to assistant coach, filling the void left from last month’s resignation of Brandon Mason following an arrest on a drunken driving allegation.

“Ralph has been promoted every year he’s been here and it’s a testament to his work ethic and loyalty,” head coach Paul Weir said in a news release.

Davis, the former New Mexico Military Institute head coach, served as the Lobos’ Director of Operations last season and video coordinator in the 2018-19 season.

“I look forward to making a purposeful impact on such a distinguished program,” Davis said.

The Lobos also formally announced the hire of Robert Edwards as video coordinator. Edwards was in the same position last season at Texas A&M Corpus Christi and was a graduate assistant under Eric Musselman at Nevada from 2017-2019.

“I have admired Coach Weir and his program from afar for a long time and I am looking forward to the opportunity to learn from him and other members of the staff,” Edwards said.
