Four teens charged in 2019 Lovington homicide

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Four teenage boys have been charged in the robbery and death of an 18-year-old last year in Lovington.

David Miranda, a Lovington Police spokesman, said the alleged shooter — who was 13 at the time — was the last to be arrested on Friday.

The other three suspects were 17, 16 and 15 years old when they allegedly planned to rob Ryan Beene on Oct. 11, 2019.

Miranda did not release the juvenile’s names, citing Lovington police policy.

He said charges against the teens include an open count of murder, armed robbery and tampering with evidence in Beene’s death.

Miranda said officers responded around 7:15 p.m. to a shooting in the 1300 block of West Brian Urlacher, on the southwest part of town. They found Beene mortally wounded and he died at a hospital.

He said, over a yearlong investigation, police learned the four teens planned to rob Beene at his home. When Beene fought back, the 13-year-old allegedly shot him six times in the doorway.
