In Uncasville, Connecticut, Albuquerque MMA featherweight Aaron Pico dispatched John de Jesus with a powerful right hand in scoring a second-round knockout Thursday on a Bellator card at Mohegan Sun Arena.
Pico, who trains at Jackson-Wink MMA, improved his record to 7-3. De Jesus dropped to 13-9.
Some 30 seconds into the fight, Pico took de Jesus down and punished him on the ground for the next four minutes. The pattern was similar in the second, but de Jesus twice managed to get to his feet.
It turned out, that was a bad idea.
On the first occasion, Pico dropped de Jesus with a right and again threw powerful punches on the ground. Once again, de Jesus got to his feet — only to take a huge right hand that put him on his back.
After a few punches on the ground, referee Kevin McDonald stopped the one-sided mayhem at 4 minutes, 12 seconds of the second round.
De Jesus, who trains in Pittsburgh, was coming off an impressive victory Ukraine’s Vladysla Parunchenko, who was 16-1 entering that fight. Clearly, though, he was no match for Pico.
