New Mexico on Sunday reported over 1,000 new COVID-19 cases for the ninth straight day as hospitalizations continued to climb.
The state also reported seven more deaths, bringing the death count to 1,215.
The Governor’s Office said in a news release Sunday that the state added 1,033 COVID-19 cases. That is only a partial total due to a disruption in the reporting system. New Mexico has seen more than 1,000 cases a day since Nov. 6.
As of Sunday, 506 people were hospitalized around the state with the disease, up from 480 on Saturday.
Bernalillo County led with 252 new cases. The state’s most populous county now has a total of 16,449.
Doña Ana County reported 165 new cases, Santa Fe County reported 92, Chaves County, where Roswell is located, added 53 and Sandoval County added 52.
Counties in the northwest part of the state that were hit hard at the start of the pandemic saw an uptick, as San Juan County added 67 cases and McKinley County added 44.
There were also 22 new cases among state inmates, including 14 at the Northwest New Mexico Correctional Center in Cibola County, seven at the Guadalupe County Correctional Facility and one at the Springer Correctional Facility.
Those whose deaths were reported Sunday are:
• A woman in her 40s from Bernalillo County who was hospitalized and had underlying health conditions.
• A woman in her 70s from Bernalillo County who had underlying conditions.
• Two men from Bernalillo County, one in his 60s and one in his 50s, who both had underlying conditions.
• A man in his 70s from Rio Arriba County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions.
• A woman in her 80s from Sandoval County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions.
• A man in his 80s from Santa Fe County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions.
The state has had a total of 64,201 cases and 25,089 reported recoveries.
