Catches of the week
Taylen Endito, 10, of Thoreau, caught a 13-inch rainbow trout at Bluewater Lake using rainbow-colored PowerBait on Nov. 15. Ron Rosignol, of Albuquerque, caught a 33-inch tiger muskie trolling a gold Rapala lure Nov. 6.
Jesse Brusuelas, 11, and his little brother EJ Brusuelas, 4, of Tularosa, caught their limit of trout at Grindstone Reservoir, including Jesse’s 18-inch, 3-pound rainbow trout using salmon peach PowerBait on Nov. 11.
Mario and Monica Velasco, stationed at Cannon AFB, caught their limit of 10 rainbow trout at Oasis Park Lake using PowerBait on Nov. 13.
Alyson Estrada, of Albuquerque, caught a 20-inch brown trout on the Rio Grande south of Taos using a nightcrawler Nov. 14.
Alanna Dominguez, 3, of Grants, caught her first rainbow trout at Riverwalk Pond in Grants using bait Nov. 13.

Streamflow on the Cimarron River near Cimarron on Monday morning was 11.7 cfs. Fishing for trout was good using PowerBait and small bead head nymph flies. Effective Monday, Nov. 16, 2020, New Mexico State Parks will temporarily shut down for two weeks through Nov. 30, in accordance with the Public Health Order.

Conchas Lake had no reports from anglers this week.
The department has implemented the final phase of a project on the Costilla Creek to expand Rio Grande cutthroat trout in 120 miles of the Costilla watershed in northern New Mexico. The final phase involved the removal of fish within a designated area (Rio Costilla from Costilla Dam downstream to the Valle Vidal Boundary including all tributaries and Comanche Creek from the road culvert crossing on Forest Road 1950 downstream to its confluence with Rio Costilla and all tributaries) with a tentative restocking of Rio Grande cutthroat in spring 2022. Places to fish nearby include Costilla Creek below the fish barrier, Upper Comanche Creek, Shuree Ponds, Middle Ponil Creek, Upper Powderhouse Creek, Little Costilla Creek, Vidal Creek and McCrystal Creek. The department anticipates completion of this final phase in the fall of 2021. Please check the department website for additional information on the project and to identify alternative angling opportunities in the interim.

Streamflow on the Rio Hondo on Monday morning near Valdez was 28.5 cfs.
Streamflow on the Rio Mora on Monday morning was 4.39 cfs. Anglers reported icing over, resulting in poor fishing conditions.
Streamflow on the Rio Pueblo near Peñasco on Monday morning was 8.09 cfs.
Fishing for trout was good at the Santa Cruz Reservoir using chunky cheese Berkley Gulp and rainbow-colored PowerBait.

Anglers reported fishing for all species was slow at Abiquiú Lake. Due to low water levels, anglers are advised to use four-wheel-drive vehicles to launch boats and watch for obstructions on the water.

Fishing for trout at the Albuquerque Area Drains was good using worms and PowerBait.

Monday morning flows on the Chama River below El Vado and Abiquiú were 99.5 cfs and 77.0 cfs, respectively. Fishing for trout below El Vado Lake was fair to good using nightcrawlers and small Rapala lures. Fishing for trout below Abiquiú Lake was good using bead head nymph flies, mop flies, Wooly Buggers, egg pattern flies and PowerBait.
