Officials announced 2,353 new COVID-19 cases and 25 more deaths from the virus across the state in an update Saturday afternoon.
It was the fifth day in a row that New Mexico tallied over 2,000 daily cases and, although it was a slight drop from Friday’s total of 2,993 cases, the weekly average now sits at a peak of 2,326 cases a day.
Nora Meyers Sackett, a Governor’s Office spokeswoman, said of those who most recently died from the virus, four were not hospitalized and seven had no underlying conditions. They were:

- A woman in her 70s from Bernalillo County who was a resident of the Skies Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Albuquerque;
- A man in his 80s from Bernalillo County;
- A woman in her 90s from Cibola County;
- A man in his 20s, a man in his 40s, a man in his 60s, a man in his 70s and a man in his 80s from Doña Ana County;
- A woman in her 40s , a woman in her 50s, a woman in her 70s and a woman in her 90s from Doña Ana Count;y
- A man in his 30s from Lea County who was not hospitalized and had no underlying conditions;
- A man in his 70s from Luna County;
- A man in his 70s from McKinley County;
- Two men in their 70s and two men in their 80s from San Juan County;
- A woman in her 90s from San Juan County;
- A woman in her 70s from Santa Fe County;
- A man in his 90s from Sierra County who was a resident of the New Mexico State Veterans Home in Truth or Consequences; and
- A man in his 60s and two women, both in their 80s, from Taos County.
There have now been 79,440 COVID-19 cases and 1,350 deaths from the virus statewide.Bernalillo, Doña Ana and McKinley counties had the highest number of new cases with 647, 291 and 212, respectively. Sandoval County had 149 new cases, San Juan had 127, Santa Fe had 121, Chaves had 118 and Lea had 113.
Sackett said there are 825 people hospitalized with the virus, 133 of them on ventilators, in New Mexico hospitals. There are 28,574 COVID-19 cases designated as having recovered by the New Mexico Department of Health.
