Police ID recent homicide victim

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Detectives have released the name of a man found dead in his Uptown-area apartment Sunday morning.

Gilbert Gallegos, an Albuquerque police spokesman, said the death of 60-year-old Virgil Castillo is being investigated as a homicide.

Officers responded to Castillo’s apartment in the 6200 block of Indian School NE, near San Pedro, after a person reported a “strange smell.”

Gallegos said police found Castillo’s body inside and “evidence at the scene indicated (Castillo) suffered trauma.”
