ABQ’s Christmas tree-lighting ceremony goes online this year

Plaza Don Luis in Historic Old Town has hosted the Old Town tree lighting for more than 25 years. Watch this year’s tree lighting on KOB-TV 4 or online at 6 p.m. Friday. (City of Albuquerque)

While the Old Town Christmas tree-lighting ceremony is off limits to an in-person audience this year, that doesn’t mean you can’t watch it.

Set for 6 p.m. Friday, the countdown and grand illumination will be shown on the city’s YouTube page at www.youtube.com/user/GOVTV16COA, on the city’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/abqspecialevents and on KOB-TV 4, the city says.

Plaza Don Luis in Old Town has hosted the holiday tradition for more than 25 years, according to the city.

While the tree-lighting event will go on, this year’s Old Town Holiday Stroll has been canceled in light of the state’s public health order.

However, you can still shop at many Old Town stores online, and a number of restaurants there are offering carryout or delivery service. Go to the “Old Town Tree Lighting” event page to see a list of businesses.
