Bernalillo County accepting proposals for public art

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Bernalillo County’s Public Art Board is supporting the creative economy through its proposals process as artists continue to face the economic challenges during the pandemic.

The deadline for submitting proposals for the 2020 calendar year is Dec. 31.

Artists can submit proposals for a variety of media and styles including 2D and 3D works.

There is a limit of three artworks per artist proposal.

Submissions received through Dec. 31 will be reviewed at the February Arts Board meeting.

Submissions received on or after Jan. 1, 2021, through May 31, 2021, will be reviewed at the July Arts Board meeting.

“The Arts Board recognizes the challenges that artists are facing in the midst of COVID-19,” says Bernalillo County Arts Board President Valerie Martinez. “Bernalillo County continues to infuse the economy with funding through the Art in Public Places ordinance, and our unsolicited proposal process allows us to financially support our creative community. We urge artists to submit.”

In 2021, the Bernalillo County Public Art program is moving forward with capital improvement projects for works of art. Projects include the second phase of the “Outposts” public art project, the South Valley Pool, Bernalillo County @ Alvarado Square, Bridge Boulevard and the Sunport Boulevard reconstruction project.
