The state announced 609 additional COVID-19 cases and nine new deaths from the virus Saturday afternoon.
It was the lowest daily count since Oct. 31, when New Mexico tallied 592 daily cases and the seven-day rolling averages were 779 cases and just over seven deaths a day.
The current rolling averages, although they have decreased in recent weeks, remain high, at 1,300 cases and more than 25 deaths a day.
Nora Meyers Sackett, a Governor’s Office spokeswoman, said seven of the nine people whose deaths were reported Saturday were from Bernalillo County.
Among those, six were residents of nursing homes around Albuquerque. The deceased ranged in age from their 70s to their 90s, and four had underlying health conditions.
The state has now recorded 2,316 deaths from the virus.
The majority of new cases came from Bernalillo County, with 125, followed by San Juan County, with 78, and Doña Ana County, with 74.
There were 749 people hospitalized with the virus across the state Saturday.
