New Mexico reports 1,208 new COVID cases, 17 deaths

New COVID-19 cases in New Mexico continued to decrease over the weekend, but the seven-day case average is still climbing.

The Governor’s Office said in a news release Sunday that the state added 1,208 COVID-19 cases and 17 deaths. Although daily case and deaths have fallen since the state recorded 47 deaths on Wednesday and 1,841 cases on Thursday, New Mexico had a seven-day case average of 1,397 on Sunday. The average has continued a steady climb since it hit 1,073 on Jan. 1.

According to Sunday’s update, Bernalillo County had 270 new cases, Doña Ana County had 152 and San Juan County had 98. Eddy County, where Carlsbad is located, had 97 new cases, Sandoval County had 80 and Santa Fe County had 66.

There were also 20 new cases among state inmates at the Western New Mexico Correctional Facility in Grants.

Those whose deaths were reported Sunday were:

⋄ Five people, ranging from their 50s to their 90s, from Bernalillo County.

⋄ A man in his 70s from Chaves County who was hospitalized and had underlying health conditions.

⋄ A woman in her 80s from Cibola County who had underlying conditions.

⋄ A man in his 60s from Curry County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions.

⋄ A woman in her 90s from Grant County who was hospitalized.

⋄ A man in his 70s from Lea County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions.

⋄ A man in his 100s from Los Alamos County.

⋄ A man in his 70s from McKinley County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions.

⋄ A man in his 80s from Sandoval County who had underlying conditions.

⋄ A woman in her 40s from San Juan County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions.

⋄ A man in his 60s from San Juan County who had underlying conditions.

⋄ A man in his 60s from Santa Fe County who was hospitalized.

⋄ A male inmate at the Guadalupe County Correctional Facility in his 60s who was hospitalized.

The total number of deaths in the state due to COVID-19 is now 2,749. New Mexico now has a total of 156,157 cases, with 77,731 recoveries.

As of Sunday, 682 people were hospitalized around the state with the disease.
