ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Detectives are investigating an overnight homicide at a motel and a body found in a diversion channel Saturday morning.
Rebecca Atkins, an Albuquerque police spokeswoman, said sometime before 9 a.m. Saturday morning a body was found in the diversion ditch just northwest of Comanche and Carlisle.
She said that death is being ruled suspicious and “more information will be provided as it is available.
Another police spokesman, Gibert Gallegos, said police responded overnight to reports of gunfire at the Motel 6 on Avenida Cesar Chavez, near Interstate 25.
He said officers found a man at the motel with “obvious trauma” and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Gallegos gave no other details.
