Biden to Make First N.M. Visit as VP

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Vice President Joe Biden will be in Albuquerque on Monday to raise campaign cash

Biden is scheduled to appear at a $1,000-a-plate 1:15 p.m. luncheon for for first-term Democratic Reps. Martin Heinrich and Harry Albuquerque’s Hotel Andaluz, but he won’t be doing public events while in New Mexico.

The third member of the state’s House delegation, U.S. Rep. Ben Ray Luján, also a Democrat, will attend the fundraiser as a special guest.

Although President Barack Obama made six campaign stops in New Mexico before last November’s election — and returned to Rio Rancho as president in May — Monday’s event will represent Biden’s first appearance in the state as vice president.

Biden, a former senator from Delaware, has traveled to various other states in recent weeks to hold similar fundraisers for Democratic members of Congress.

Heinrich, Teague, Luján and the other 432 members of the House of Representatives will be up for re-election in November 2010.
