ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — New Mexico author Dennis Herrick signs his short-story collection, “Pueblo Mysteries,” from 1-3 p.m. today at Treasure House Books & Gifts, 2012 South Plaza NW. Herrick won the 2004 Tony Hillerman Mystery Writing Contest for his short story, “Hunting Season.” Herrick is an emeritus journalism faculty member at the University of New Mexico.
AT BOOKWORKS: Carrie Blaisdell discusses the book “Gus Blaisdell Collected” at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5. It’s a collection of Gus Blaisdell’s critical writings including essays on literature, art and film. He owned and operated The Living Batch bookstore in Albuquerque and taught at UNM. NEW BOOK: Albuquerque’s Jim Albrecht is the author of “101 Stupid Haiku.” Don’t be fooled by the title, which is excessively self-deprecating and doesn’t do justice to the creativity and humor of this Albuquerque resident. ANOTHER NEW BOOK: Rachel Ballantine of Albuquerque is the author of a new self-published book titled “Recipoetry of a Kitchen Mystic — A Cookbook Scrapbook.” Inside is Ballantine’s original poetry, recipes and art. The book states that Ballantine “draws from her rich experience and knowledge of cooking and nutrition, art and women in history to give readers sustenance, celebration, laughter and nourishment.”
