Breaking: Black Ice Causing Closures, Accidents on ABQ Roads

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Eastbound Paseo del Norte closed at Coors after accident this morning.

8:00am UPDATE: State employees in Albuquerque and Santa Fe are being given an extra two hours to get to work this morning, Bernalillo County Metro Court will open at 10 a.m. and state District Court in Albuquerque is on a two-hour delay, according to KOAT-TV’s Weather Alerts Web site.

These are just a few of the delays and closings caused around the state by the quick-hitting winter storm moving through New Mexico.

Freezing slush and black ice are causing problems for drivers around the Albuquerque area this morning, with eastbound Paseo del Norte shut down at Coors following an early-morning accident and another closure reported at Eagle Ranch, KOB-TV is reporting.

KRQE News 13 also is reporting that police shut down Interstate 25 at Lomas shortly before 6 this morning, and I-40’s westbound ramp to northbound I-25 was closed. I-25 is shut from Big I to Tramway, according to KOB-TV.

Icy spots are reported all along Interstate 40 from the Arizona state line to Sedillo Hill, and I-25 is snowpacked and icy from Tramway north to Glorieta, KOB-TV is reporting.

Multiple vehicle accidents have been reported and very icy conditions on I-40 westbound between Tramway and Wyoming, according to the Albuquerque Police Department’s Twitter alerts.
