ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — It’s an occurrence that changed the area.
Former state historian Robert J. Tórrez will host a talk about “The Taos Uprising of January 1847” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31 at Santuario de Guadalupe, 100 N. Guadalupe in Santa Fe. The lecture is the first of three programs offered by the Las Golondrinas winter lecture series “Speaking of Tradition: New Perspectives on Old Traditions.” Tórrez will speak about the summer of 1846 when America’s Army of the West occupied the state, but Mexican patriots weren’t going to take it sitting down and devised a plan to expel the “gringo” interlopers.
The lecture is free. For more information call 505-471-2261.
