ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The New Mexico Activities Association on Sunday suspended all athletic and non-athletic activities until further notice.
In the wake of the closures of schools in Lordsburg, Deming, Carlsbad and Socorro, each related to the swine flu bug, the NMAA decided to suspend things “in the interest of fairness and equity,” spokesman Robert Zayas said.
The first weekend of state baseball, the small-school state track meet and the state team tennis championships are going to be the first major casualties of the NMAA’s decision. They were all slated for next weekend.
Zayas said the suspension of activity includes practices.
