Highlands qualifies two to national indoor meet

SANTA FE, N.M. — New Mexico Highlands senior Jillisa Grant and junior Danisha Phipps were among the 59 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference student-athletes who will be competing in the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.

Grant, a three-time national champion, will compete in the long jump and 50-meter hurdles, while Phipps qualified in the pentathlon.

The championships will be held March 7-9 in Birmingham, Ala.

Highlands is coming off its highest team placing in program history, finishing second on Saturday at the RMAC Championships in Spearfish, SD.

Grant won the long jump (5.83 meters) and was second in the triple jump (11.34M), 200 (24.58) and 60H (7.58), while taking sixth in the 60M dash.

Phipps won the pentathlon with 3549 points, ranking her fifth in the nation for the event

Adams State, which is ranked No. 2 nationally by the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association ratings, finished first with 181 points. The Cowgirls were second with 108 points.
