ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — This summer, Taos Ski Valley will open its slopes to mountain biking for the first time, according to a press release.
The new mountain biking terrain will have its grand opening in the late summer of 2013 and riders will have full access to Taos’ Lift 1 in the main base area. The trails will include a downhill flow trail that will be more than three miles long with a variety of rollers, jumps, berms and other features.
In addition, Taos Ski Valley plans to add a skills course, pump track and other amenities in the base area of the mountain. In subsequent phases, Taos will add additional trails and features, giving riders new experiences each summer.
“Our regular winter visitors have been asking us to make the Taos experience a multi-season one, so we’re thrilled to open up our mountain to outdoor enthusiasts and Taos Ski Valley fans this summer,” said Alejandro Blake, Guest Services manager for Taos Ski Valley. “Because our terrain is a blank canvas for mountain biking, we’re able to create some pretty unique, innovative trails that will incorporate the latest design techniques and features for exceptional flow. In addition, hikers and other summer visitors will be able to the ride the lifts to they too can enjoy the spectacular views and wildlife we have here.”
Local businesses including restaurants, hotels, shops and outfitters will be open this summer to accommodate visitors – another big change for the Valley. “We know that people who come for mountain biking will also want to take advantage of the other activities available in the area, including world-class dining, rafting, hiking, and even luxury attractions
Initial design and planning is currently underway and work is expected to begin on the mountain by the end of May early June.
