Breaking at 12:40pm — Feds Kill `Third-Strike’ Wolf

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A female wolf who recently killed a third cow was shot by Fish and Wildlife this morning.


The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service today shot and killed a female wolf that recently killed a third cow since being released into the wilderness under the Mexican gray wolf reintroduction program, according to a report from The Associated Press on KOB-TV.

The wolf had been released in southwestern New Mexico in late April after it had killed two cows elsewhere, and it recently killed another cow in Catron County, the AP reported.

The federal wildlife agency issued a lethal order on Tuesday night, meaning it would kill the wolf rather than trap it, according to the AP report.
