UPDATED: 25-acre forest fire ignites near Las Vegas

9:15 p.m. — The fire has now burned about 30 acres and is 70 percent contained. Crews will monitor the fire tonight and “mop up” tomorrow, according to a State Forestry spokesman.


More than 40 firefighters are battling a “quite active” fire close to State Road 283 and Mineral Hill, a blaze the broke out around 2 p.m. and has consumed around 25 acres.

Four houses were voluntarily evacuated due to the fire, which is burning oak, ponderosa pine, juniper and grasses on private land.
